O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?

Picking up a discussion that started about Satan and his role hoping to get understanding of various views on who satan is. This is basically an off shoot of a discussion started by Joy

Judith, I think the serpent was a sign of healing in the Wilderness passages. In Dr. Charlesworths book on the subject he points out how we mistakenly see a serpent as a bad thing when back then they had different views on a serpent and most of the time as a good thing.

Our flesh is our SERPENT

How do understand Rev 12:9 for the discussion is about Adam, Eve, Satan and how that understanding of those entities carries through to be understood in the book of Revelation in the destruction of satan and the millenium.

IF you find the same serpent in Eden to be the one in Revelation and it is our flesh (without yet defining what that means), how does that tie in with the destruction of satan in Revelation?

The Hebrew word for Satan means 'ADVERSARY' or ACCUSER.  The same terms applied to the law.  Where do you think the ADVERSARIES of Christ Jesus and their kingdom was?  Isaiah identifies his enemies in 66:6 as those who had power, dominion and authority in the temple.

'The LAW brings WRATH.'  God's WRATH was poured out on Jerusalem in the first century.  The ADVERSARY has been defeated with the destruction of the Holy City, temple and cultus of Judaism, two-horned BEAST of church and state in an earthly kingdom.  The LAW no longer has authority over a believer.  In that analogy, Satan has been bound.

Still studying this and asking for more understanding as the Holy Spirit leads.

Meant to add that Rev 12:9 says that the Adversary was 'cast out.'

Slaves feared their MASTER because they could be 'cast out' for disobedience.

"Cast out" the bondwoman and her son for she shall not inherit with the FREE Woman.'
Paul explains this dichotomy of two trees, two seeds, two women, two cities.  One is diametrically opposed to the other.  Old Jerusalem vs New Jersualem.  Earthly vs Heavenly.  Flesh vs Spirit.  Hagar vs Sarah.

The ADVERSARY was 'cast out' (some render it thrown down) when the Old Covenant Whore of Babylon (Jerusalem) was 'cast out.'.Only the Nation of Israel was in bondage to the law and as such were slaves, fearful of their Master.

Sons and Daughters born from the union of the Lamb to his Virgin Bride have a loving Father and do not fear being 'cast out.'

I think there is a good way of thinking of the dichotomy of the snake, one snake had Man eat of the tree of knowledge of good and evil and another snake (remember Christ raised up like the snake that Moses used) had Man eat of the tree of (eternal) life.

Yes, that's one way of viewing it.  However, the bible is about the dichotomy of flesh vs spirit.  'His seed vs Her seed.'  2 trees, 2 seeds, 2 mts, 2 women, 2 cities.  flesh vs spirit.  One earthly; one heavenly.

The 'Mark of the Beast' had nothing to do with Rome.  It's a dichotomy of the earthly kingdom (which bought and sold, Isaiah 55:1) vs heavenly kingdom with God's seal in their forehead.  Believers vs unbelievers.  Those who embraced the Messiah vs his enemies.  Is 66:6.

I view everything biblical in this 'dichotomy' of his seed vs her seed.
