O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?

I was hoping I could get some comments on the divine council for example the purpose of their creation and if at the end of the first covenant they no longer existed or if their purpose changed.

Biblically, there is no indication of who or what they are, nor their purpose. Anything would just be speculation.

Hi Sharon, I believe you would enjoy Dr. Michael Heiser's works on this. He has a new book out titled "The Unseen Realm." Let me know if this helps...

Gary I have been reading Michael H work from his website. Thank you for that. I just haven't been able to come to a conclusion as to the existence today or what the original purpose was. The purpose comes clear later in the scriptures and that may be the original purpose. As God tells them they will die like men I wondered if that was just those who rebelled or the entire council.

Jerel Kratt mentions the Divine Council in his paper on "Who or What was the Devil?".  See the thread on DeathIsDefeated:  He sources an article my Dr. Michael Heiser on the Divine Council in his paper.  I've just recently purchased a copy of Dr. Heiser's book "The Unseen Realm".  It seems that this is a topic that Dr. Heiser has studied for a long time.  Dr. Heiser is an expert in Old Testament and ancient languages.  He is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania (Ivy League school) and his doctorate is from the University of Wisconsin.  The one thing that he appears not to be interested in is eschatology (per articles he has written on his web site).  That surprises me because your question is very appropriate to his major interest:  what did happen to the members of the Divine Council in 70 AD, especially those 70 members who were in charge of the 70 nations?  We do know what happened to at least one member of the Divine Council.

I really appreciated your reply. I am at a lost as to whether there is still a council. I asked David Curtis from Berean Bible as it was his study on spiritual warfare that started my search. He felt they were still in existence except for the rebellious ones because they were his family and what would he do with the loyal ones. So I will continue the search. I to was surprised that eschatology was not an interest to him either. Thank you again. The studying never ends.
