Abimelech Take 2

Some subtleties in the Abimelech story.Abimelech had an understanding of the concept of Righteousness and he even boldly brought the notion to the table when defending himself for taking Abraham's wife.   He actually claims his whole nation was righteous and God never bothered to correct him if he was wrong.   Sarah was beautiful this we all know from having read Genesis. But her beauty is not the only reason she was sought after in this case.  Abimelech was the King but the women in his…See More

"All pontification aside, me thinks adherents of modern American Christendom would balk at the idea of non-Hebrew writers in antiquity addressing such "core Judeo/Christian/Hebraic" concepts as long lifespans of the patriarchs. "

"Thanks for the response. I see your points.   Interestingly, Josephus seems to re-hash his ideas in Book 20, Chapter 11 paragraph 2.  This time he does so within the scope of time after the Law was given.  Where earlier the idea…"

1000 years as understood by Josephus and friends

Not only does Josephus claim a literal interpretation of the 1000 year lifespans found in the Torah but he also goes as far as claiming that other Antiquated (pun intended) writers all agree with him.  I left my copy of BCS in another city so I can't confirm whether or not the writers mentioned below made an appearance in the BCS research.  Here is the text in question from Chapter 3 of his 1st Book in his series on the Antiquities of the Jews:"Now when Noah had lived three hundred and fifty…See More

Philip replied to JL Vaughn's discussion How do you prove logic true?
"I distrust logic due to my distaste for its dirty laundry (constructs such as Russell's Paradox).  So, anyway, what is an assumption?  Is an assumption part of a logical system?  Is it a chicken/egg kind of thing?   It…"

"Philip, Cherubim is plural.  Cherub is singular. Ez. 28:14 tells us that at least one of those cherubs was a man and not an angel.  He became rich from the spoils of Eden and became king over a jurisdicition. Blessings."

"just a note:  It seems cherubim (sing. or plural?...not sure) had been placed on the east side of the Garden to guard the way to the tree of life.  So I would certainly call that a jurisdiction over a part of an "earth-realm."…"

The curse sans angels.

In Romans 8:19-22 we find the source of often quoted out-of-context references to "the cursed creation" by young earth creationists and those  who uphold the notion of a physical and material view of an Adamic curse.  For those who will not let go of their physical curse view (at least for a moment of study) I must say that there is a very interesting problem which approaches.  It is this:  if you believe "creation in bondage" referred to in Romans 8 is all of God's creation then does that…
