O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?
I came across this interview with Dr. Peter Enns. The entire interview is fascinating, and I think he was spot on with the problems that mainstream evangelical (and I would include Reformed) crowds are perpetuating by purposely ignoring tough questions.
I would highly recommend it.
At about the 1 hour mark a question comes in from the audience. Essentially the question was "if the beginning was not about material creation why does the end have to be?"
It was awesome. Needless to say it was like Dr. Enns finally looked up and saw the train coming right at him. He tried to play it off but anyone in the audience would have had a very fertile seed planted.
This is another reason why the full-preterist world would do well to interact with this crowd. Futurist that are hog tied to YEC (American Vision comes to mind) will never get their heads out of the sand. However, people who follow Dr. Enns are more able to think critically and are more willing to seek answers to tough questions. IMO, they are already half way down the road.
Oh BTW, Even Pete admitted in his response to the question that the NT writers expected everything to happen soon!
All around, this interview is well worth the listen.
Blessings,
Micah

Comment by Doug Wilkinson on March 17, 2012 at 1:33pm That was an interesting podcast. I'm surprised that he bothers to see the end of Romans 1 as anything other than an itemized description of the history of Israel starting at Sinai. I think he'll like your book.
Comment by JL Vaughn on March 17, 2012 at 3:18pm Doug,
Enns has had a copy of BCS for a couple years. He won't read it because no professionals endorse the view and the book "looks self-published."
Plus, I get the distinct impression that he views preterism as heretical... which is, in a word, ironic!
Comment by Doug Wilkinson on March 17, 2012 at 7:42pm I'd be tempted to send him another one with a quote from this interview (including a time stamp) and then literally dare him to read it.
If you listen to his response he really tries to play the ignorance card on a certain level. He clearly sees the problem though.
The problem I had with his response is that he is not ignorant. I know for a fact that myself and Norm have tried to interact on his blog. Usually he just ignores us.
It is funny though because a lot of dead ends that he runs into in his own theology would be cleared up with Covenant Eschatology/Creation.
I don't know if I can blame him though. He already lost his job once...
So much for the Reformed heritage.
Blessings,
Micah
Comment by Eohn Rhodes on March 18, 2012 at 6:06am listened to about half of the podcast and it gave me an idea. My church has tolerated my views though some people have left because of me. our most tenured elder believes covenant eschatology too. So I would love to attach a forum similar to this one to our church website. I doubt if they will let me but it would give a place to discuss the tough questions without threatening the paid staff. It could have an enter at your own risk sign on it. The approach would be critical. Any ideas?
Eohn,
That would be pretty neat if a church was that open to discussion. However, if there is already friction a discussion forum might actually add problems.
I would highly recommend listening to Jerel's "Kingdom Living" class. He really out flanks the fear and presents all the positive applications of fulfilled eschatology before even putting people on the path. It seems to be a great way to present fulfilled theology without being threatening.
Blessings,
Micah
