O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?

Sometimes, it just helps to look at the alternatives.

The Search for a Cursed Cosmos

Does anyone else see an entire theological paradigm getting a wee bit... how should I put this... wobly? How long can this approach to God's Word really last?

Can you see your grandchildren and great-grandchildren pushing this with all of their strength, mind, effort, time and money? I can't.

It's over.

"So, rather than the second law of thermodynamics beginning at the Fall, it seems more likely that its restorative counterpart ceased at the Fall.'

WHEW!! The harder they try the sillier they look.

You'll probably like this one too.

On Earth as it is on Mars...Mars rover may provide evidence against young earth!

Are you curious about Curiosity, NASA’s new Mars rover, scheduled to launch from Cape Canaveral, Fla., this month? Here’s part of a report in the Los Angeles Times about it:

Curiosity will take 8.5 months to travel the 354 million miles to Mars — and two years to cover about 14 miles of its surface.

The rover is expected to land Aug. 5 near the Martian equator inside Gale crater, a chasm about the combined size of Connecticut and Rhode Island with a 3-mile-high mountain of layered sedimentary rock at its bottom.

Scientists believe the crater, thought to date back billions of years to when Mars was warm and wet, will reveal the planet’s evolutionary story the way the Grand Canyon’s strata expose the history of Earth.

“It’s going to be like reading a novel — and it’s a long one,” said John Grotzinger, the project’s chief scientist. “It’s going to be a wild journey looking into the guts of the history of Mars.”

Were the rover to discover fossils in the three miles of exposed sedimentary strata—and different fossils in different strata—would young earth creationists posit a massive global flood on Mars to account for the huge build-up of the strata (as they do to account for the strata and fossils of the Grand Canyon)?

"the Christian Bible, as interpreted by contemporary fundamentalists, makes Eve’s eating of the forbidden fruit in the Garden of Eden a cosmic catastrophe—the route by which death entered the universe. So, if there are fossils on Mars, they would have to have been deposited after Eve ate the forbidden fruit (that is, within the past 10,000 years).

But there’s nothing in the Bible about a global flood on Mars, is there? So, if Mars has features akin to those on Earth—including fossils—and they are not to be accounted for by a global flood, then Earth’s features need not be accounted for by a global flood either.

But you see, God had to destroy all life on Mars because Jesus could only die once, not once on each planet.  God chose to destroy the sinless Martians for Adam's sin, because, being sinless, God could save them directly to heaven (or is it the bosom of Abraham?).

I can't even believe AIG published that article. Wow.

I can believe it.  They turned Spurgeon into a YEC.  I wouldn't put anything past them.

Comment by Charles Shank on November 23, 2011 at 10:34pm

I can't even read the whole thing, but this said it all for me;

When Adam rebelled against God by eating the forbidden fruit, God placed a curse on the world. No longer was the cosmos the perfect creation that God Himself had declared “very good” (Genesis 1:31).

I'm gonna go get my dinner; I've got better things to do!:)

I just clicked on the article.

"How did Adam’s fall into sin affect stars, galaxies, and planets, for example?"

I couldn't get past that, the second sentence.

These people are serious???

I agree with Tim. It's over.

The Decay of the Cosmos

Although the second law is not intrinsically bad, one difficulty remains. As a result of the second law of thermodynamics, the universe is “running down” as its usable energy decays to a useless form. Consequently, the universe cannot last forever. It must eventually run down completely (Psalm 102:25–26).

Uh huh, except for the fact that what makes for that energy depletion under that law could not happen unless its source was renewable too.   And while he quotes Ps 102, he places no emphasis on by what means God has also established that will change it, thus keeping the needed balance.   If the command to "Be fruitful and multiply" does not inherently include the reason for the need for such a command (ie. death), then it makes little sense to give it.

This is the ultimate solution in their mind:

The human mind is not the limit of possibility; God is. So we trust that God is capable of creating and sustaining a perfect world by His wisdom.

As a result, any observation that is made on Mars or anywhere else that would point away from YEC is a false interpretation of the data because we do not have the wisdom of God.

It becomes rather tiresome.  It must be the way the YEC observes the universe because only they havde the wisdom of God.
