O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?

A gravity simulator based on Newton's law of Universal Gravitation that demonstrates a heliocentric system versus a geocentric system.

You know...as an aside (or maybe not so much an aside?) the heliocentric model--with the sun at the center--makes much more sense as a "type," given the fact that the sun is presented in Scripture as a physical picture of Jesus Christ, the Sun of Righteousness, the Bright and Morning Star...

Think about the order of our solar system, with all the planets revolving around the sun--the center of everything--and how this order is maintained by the sun's gravitational pull (did I say that right, Jeffrey?) and compare it to this:

Act 17:28 for in Him we live and move and have our being...

Psa 19:4 Their line has gone out through all the earth, And their words to the end of the world. In them He has set a tabernacle for the sun, 5 Which is like a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, And rejoices like a strong man to run its race. 6 Its rising is from one end of heaven, And its circuit to the other end; And there is nothing hidden from its heat. [the sun--Jesus--is center stage, you guys]

Tami,

That was my thought exactly. So much of the Church is self-centered, Geocentrism would fit really well, Except for the fact that Christ is the center. I am much more comfortable having the SUN/SON as the center that holds all things together rather than the EARTH/MAN.

It just goes to show how egotistical we can be without even realizing it.

Let's see. Here is a citation from Beyond Creation Science, p. 226:

"This may sound like a radical charge, but young-earth creationism is humanistic in its view of creation and curse. It teaches that the sin of Adam and Eve cursed God's entire universe. The working assumption behind this belief is that our entire universe revolves around man. Ironically, this humanistic perspective is not essentially different than the claims some Christians made during the geocentrism debate a few centuries ago. They, too, thought the entire universe must physically revolve around earth and man..."

I have to make one observation on all of this. Watching a self-professed Calvinist argue for geocentrism is quite entertaining!

No, Ted, I think you are wrong.

I will defer to JL if I am wrong on this. As I understand it, one of the chief problems with the geocentric model, from a purely scientific perspective, is that it cannot explain the observed phases of Venus as we see them from here on Earth. I have yet to read anywhere where a follower of the geocentric model has been able to answer to this flaw in this model. I have asked preterists who advocate for the geocentric model how to explain the phases of Venus. I have directed to websites with no answer.

Tim, I don't think those things are very good for you.

But Ed, their whole premise is that you have absolutely no way of knowing that about those other systems. Science is irrelevant. What you observe with your senses is irrelevant.

Their hyper-literal, hyper-Clarkian hermeneutic, driven by their death-grip on YEC (they must protect this plank at all costs), and a literal reading of Genesis creation, forces them to deny that what you are saying about those planets can ever be substantiated. Because the Bible does not say that, Ed! You can know nothing for certain if it's not stated in Scripture. Furthermore, their *interpretation* of Scripture is synonymous in their minds with Scripture itself. How else could they say with such certainty that the Bible teaches the sun revolves around the earth?

As I pointed out in our podcast discussion on this topic, this philosophy suggests that our Creator is also our Deceiver. The more I consider all of the ramifications of these folks' philosophy, I realize how shameful it is.

Someone posted on SGP:

"If Jesus were "the sun" then why wouldn't Scripture mention such an "obvious" comparison?"

It does. Psalm 19 and and Malachi 4 for starters.
