Deathisdefeated

O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?

Methods of dating easily explained, that clearly prove the age of the Earth and our universe. Part of the "Made Easy" series that explains science in clear and simple terms. A must for people who think the world is just 6,000 years old.

Notice that the table of Usher's dates started with the creation of Adam, not the universe. Usher did not give the date or age of the creation of the universe. Usher was likely a day-ager and his understanding of Genesis 1 has been misrepresented.

His friend John Lightfoot was a gap-theorist, who also believed the earth was very old, but that the days of Genesis were 24 hours each.

It was friends of Lightfoot and Usher who developed modern geology. Why? To test empirically whether a gap at Gen. 1:2 or long days was the correct interpretation of Genesis.

I think this article sums up the YEC fraud. http://www.talkorigins.org/faqs/icr-visit/bartelt1.html Look for "Stuart Nevins" near the bottom of the page, then read the article from the top.

By the way Joseph, this article at talk origins claims ICR admits that remains of "over 200 Homo erectus individuals have been found," and "regarding Neanderthals -- that [remains of] about 300 individuals have been found."

This is a bit more than your suggestion above.

One thing that bugs me about the debates about Neanderthal, Neanderthal appears to have "developed" in Europe and died off as man was moving out of Africa into Europe. Geography is not considered in the common comments about the relationship between Neanderthal and man.

By all means, let us elevate our faith in science over those men whose faith is based in scripture alone! I suspect that the sun being billions of years old pretty much guarantees it will never be able to burn itself out, therefore we don't need God to sustain it. So how long before science can prove there is no God we need to believe even created the heavens and the earth let alone all that is contained therein? Good job the OEC are doing towards that end!

btw, have you heard about the robots some scientists are creating that lie at 'will' to humans? Now there's a science for you! One you can really put your hope in...

Robin,

"By all means, let us elevate our faith in science over those men whose faith is based in scripture alone!"

Uh? So what verse in Scripture did these men whose faith is based on scripture alone provided to prove the world is 6000 years old? I'm still trying to find that verse in the Bible. Maybe you can share it with me. It is a simple request. Any verse that state the age of the world. As soon as I read it I'll believe it. After all, my faith comes from Scripture alone.

I guess I don't see that the age of the earth has anything to do with our faith in the One who created it. It is however important to some who are looking for a way around that truth. Even if the world is billions of years old that is no guarantee it will be here tomorrow - unless the Lord wills it to be. And although science has been able to do much for our health, it cannot keep a soul alive. Now the Lord I can trust to heal with or without medicine, because He didn't just make the first man covenantal, He gave him his very life. And that is more power than the world cares to know about, else they would fear Him too!

Just my thoughts on this matter - Robin

Robin, if "the age of the earth doesn't have anything to do with our faith in the One who created it," then what is up with this comment?

"By all means, let us elevate our faith in science over those men whose faith is based in scripture alone!"

Rich called you on your ridiculous accusation, asking you to provide a scriptural foundation for it, you ignored his question, and went on to post as if you hadn't really said what is right above for everyone to read.

So which is it, Robin, that best represents your position? Your most recent post, or the one right before it?

Ed,

Exactly my thoughts. If the Bible stated somewhere when the earth was made, and then I used science to say, "no, that is incorrect because this test says otherwise" it would be one thing. But, the Bible is completely silent on the matter. So, how am I choosing Science over Scripture?

God has given us science/tools to investigate such matters, which are concrete, not spiritual. In other words, the physical dwells in the same realm as science. Sure science can not touch the spiritual and can therefore never prove God exist, but no one is trying to use science to prove God exist (at least us CCer's aren't. Can't speak to OEC futurist). We are using the tools to investigate the physical realm, which science can touch and is limited to operate within. And these God given tools tell us Billions of years. Sure we'll never get it down to the very year (or +/- a billionth of a year), but who cares? The science is accurate enough to tell us it ain't no 6-10,000 years.

Mellontes,

I just wonder how long before we are able to actually travel the stars and find other M class planets. Just think, then we'll be able to colonize those planets and spread ourselves out across the Universe. I think God created the place as a play ground for man to explore for all eternity. It certainly is big enough. :)

The question is how or what technically will we stumble across that will allow us to do it. Worm holes perhaps? Or, some equivalent to warp speed? One never knows what the future has in store.
